These words were spoken to King Asa, who had once trusted God but later relied on human alliances instead. Through the prophet Hanani, God reminds Asa—and us—that His strength is not unlocked by human schemes but by hearts fully committed to Him.
Notice the imagery:
“The eyes of the LORD run to and fro.” God is not passive or distant. He is actively scanning the whole earth, watching carefully for those who trust Him.
“To give strong support.” God isn’t looking for perfection; He’s looking for dependence. When He finds hearts that lean on Him, He pours in His strength and support.
“Whose heart is blameless toward Him.” The Hebrew word for blameless (shalem) means whole, undivided, loyal. God is searching for wholehearted trust, not divided allegiance.
Applied to biblical health, this is both comforting and challenging. Many today put ultimate trust in systems, medicines, or human strategies. While these can be helpful, they are not the source of true strength. Thriving in troubled times means positioning your heart fully toward God, so that when His eyes search, He finds you ready to receive His strong support.
This promise means you don’t have to muster all the strength on your own. God Himself is eager to strengthen you—spiritually, emotionally, and even physically—when your heart is fully His.
Thriving, then, is not about how strong you are, but about how surrendered you are. When your trust is undivided, His strength flows unhindered.
Prayer: Lord, let my heart be wholly Yours. When Your eyes search the earth, may You find me trusting fully in You. Strengthen me with Your power and support so that I may thrive, not by my own might, but by Your faithful presence. Amen.
