Moses prayed these words after reflecting on the brevity and beauty of life. Time is one of God’s greatest gifts, yet it is also one of the easiest to waste.
Moses understood that wisdom is not simply knowing what is right. It is ordering our days in a way that reflects God’s priorities. When we learn to “number our days,” we begin living intentionally instead of reactively. This mindset is at the core of healthy, life-giving habits.
Biblical health grows when we see each day as a stewardship. Our time, energy, and attention are not random resources. They have been entrusted to us by God. The habits we form shape how we use that stewardship. Small choices repeated daily create the momentum of our lives. Moses’ prayer invites us to slow down and consider how we spend our days instead of drifting through them.
Numbering our days does not mean obsessing over schedules or cramming our calendars. It means recognizing the value of each day and choosing what aligns with God’s design. A heart of wisdom develops when we begin asking purposeful questions: What supports my health? What strengthens my spirit? What brings peace to my mind? What habits lead me toward abundance rather than exhaustion?
For many people, unhealthy patterns form not because of rebellion, but because of unawareness. Days disappear into busyness, distraction, or stress. But when we intentionally pause, reflect, and plan, we create space to build habits that support whole-person well-being.
Real nourishment instead of processed substitutes. Consistent rest instead of late-night strain. Stillness with God instead of constant noise. Movement instead of stagnation. Wisdom helps us choose what brings life.
This verse also reminds us that we cannot do this alone. Moses prayed, “Teach us.” Only God can reveal the blind spots, strengthen our resolve, and guide us into sustainable rhythms. Healthy habits are not self-help; they are Spirit-led practices. The Holy Spirit nudges us toward better choices, convicts us when our routines drift, and empowers us to keep going when motivation fades.
When we number our days, we live with intention. We realize that time is precious, health is a gift, and daily choices have eternal impact. A heart of wisdom grows when our days align with God’s purposes.
Prayer: Father, teach me to number my days with wisdom. Help me see the value of each moment and guide me into habits that strengthen my body, mind, and spirit. Lead me into intentional, healthy rhythms that reflect Your design and bring peace to my life. Amen.
