Called to Wisdom

Reading Time: 2 minutes
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.”

Paul wrote these words to believers who lived in a culture saturated with competing philosophies, spiritual speculation, and man-made rules. The Colossians were being pressured to add layers of human wisdom to their faith. Paul responded by praying, not that they would gain more information, but that they would be filled with wisdom that comes from God.

Wisdom in this verse is not intellectual brilliance. It is spiritual discernment shaped by the Holy Spirit. Paul connects wisdom directly to knowing God’s will. Biblical wisdom is practical and directional. It informs how a person lives, chooses, and responds. It is not passive knowledge. It leads to action aligned with truth.

The phrase “filled with the knowledge of His will” implies completeness, not fragments. Paul wanted their understanding to be governed by God rather than culture. This wisdom was meant to stabilize them so they would not be swayed by trends or pressure. Understanding given by the Spirit produces clarity where confusion once ruled.

This matters deeply for Biblical health. Many health decisions are driven by conflicting voices. Trends shift quickly. Claims multiply. Without wisdom, people react instead of discern.

God does not cause sickness, but confusion can lead to choices that undermine well-being over time. Wisdom brings order. It helps distinguish what supports life from what only appears beneficial.

Spirit-given wisdom encourages alignment with God’s design. It values nourishment over stimulation. God-made foods reflect wisdom because they work with the body rather than overriding it.

Sugary, processed foods and convenience home products often appeal to impulse rather than discernment. They promise ease while quietly disrupting balance. Wisdom learns to look beyond immediate appeal to long-term fruit.

Wisdom also shapes rhythm. Knowing God’s will includes knowing when to act and when to rest. Many people ignore signals of fatigue because they lack discernment, not motivation. Wisdom listens. It honors limits without guilt. It recognizes that God’s guidance includes boundaries meant to protect life.

Paul’s prayer shows that wisdom is something received, not achieved. It flows from relationship with God through His Spirit. This guards against pride and fear. When wisdom guides decisions, health becomes less about control and more about stewardship.

The Holy Spirit reminds us that God desires His people to live with clarity. Wisdom steadies the mind, orders the body, and aligns daily life with truth. When choices are shaped by the Spirit, they tend toward life, peace, and lasting fruit.

Prayer: Father, thank You for offering wisdom generously through Your Spirit. Fill my mind with understanding that reflects Your will, not cultural confusion. Help me discern what truly supports life in my habits, nourishment, and daily rhythms. Teach me to trust Your wisdom above my own impulses, and guide my choices so they honor You and lead to peace and health. Amen.
