~ Lamentations 3:22–23

These verses were written in the middle of deep sorrow. Jerusalem had fallen, the people were suffering, and the author (traditionally Jeremiah) was surrounded by grief. Yet right there—in lament—he declares one of the most hopeful truths in Scripture: God’s love and mercy never run dry.
Let’s break it down:
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases.” The Hebrew word ḥesed describes God’s covenant love—faithful, loyal, unshakable. Even in the darkest times, His love is constant.
“His mercies never come to an end.” The word raḥamim means compassion, tender care, the kind of mercy a parent shows to a hurting child. There is no expiration date on God’s mercy.
“They are new every morning.” Every sunrise brings fresh supplies of grace. Yesterday’s failures, fears, or fatigue do not drain today’s mercy.
“Great is Your faithfulness.” God is not only loving and merciful—He is faithful to keep giving, again and again.
Applied to biblical health, this truth is life-giving. In troubled times, it’s easy to wake up already exhausted—mentally, physically, spiritually. But Scripture says each new day carries with it new mercies. God doesn’t ask you to live today on yesterday’s strength. He gives fresh grace, fresh patience, fresh comfort, and fresh endurance.
This also means thriving isn’t about never failing or never feeling weak. It’s about knowing that no matter how drained you were yesterday, God has renewed mercies waiting for you this morning. His love doesn’t get used up. His compassion doesn’t run out.
Think of it this way: every sunrise is a sermon that God is faithful. The day may be filled with challenges, but you never face them empty-handed. His mercies meet you there, perfectly suited for the day ahead.
So instead of dreading tomorrow, you can wake with hope: “New day, new mercies.” That is how we thrive in troubled times.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that Your steadfast love never ceases and Your mercies never come to an end. Teach me to rise each morning in hope, knowing that You have new grace for me today. Great is Your faithfulness, and in You I will thrive. Amen.
