~ Colossians 2:6–7
Paul writes this to believers in Colossae who were facing false teachings and cultural pressures. His message is simple but profound: stay anchored in Christ. You received Him by faith, now continue to walk in Him by faith.
He gives us three images of what thriving looks like:
- Rooted in Him — Like a tree, our stability and nourishment come from where we are planted. If our roots are in Christ, no storm can uproot us.
- Built up in Him — Like a building, our lives are meant to rise higher, stronger, and more beautiful as we are constructed on the solid foundation of Christ.
- Established in the faith — This means being firm, immovable, and secure in what we believe, no matter what false voices or shifting trends surround us.
And the overflow of all this? “Abounding in thanksgiving.” Gratitude is both the fruit and the fertilizer of thriving. When we thank God, we recognize His provision, we strengthen our faith, and we open the door to more joy and peace.
Applied to biblical health, this passage is a reminder that in a world full of instability. Whether sickness, toxins, or uncertainty, our health journey cannot rest solely on shifting human wisdom. To thrive, our roots must go down into Christ. He gives us wisdom for our bodies, strength for our minds, and peace for our spirits.
And thanksgiving itself is medicine. Studies even show gratitude reduces stress, improves health, and strengthens resilience. But more than that, thanksgiving aligns us with God’s will (1 Thess. 5:18) and shifts our focus from scarcity to abundance. When we overflow with gratitude, we thrive even in hard times.
So ask yourself: Am I deeply rooted in Christ? Am I allowing Him to build me up daily? Am I practicing thanksgiving as a way of life? If so, you are already thriving even if the world feels shaky around you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You that in You I am rooted, built up, and established in faith. Keep me grounded in Your truth, growing in Your strength, and overflowing with thanksgiving. Let my life thrive in You and point others to Your unshakable foundation. Amen.
