David invites us into an experience, not merely an idea. “Taste and see that the LORD is good.” God does not ask us to trust His goodness from a distance. He invites us to encounter it personally, to take it in like nourishment. This imagery is intentional.
Tasting is active. It involves receiving something into your body and allowing it to strengthen and sustain you. David is saying that God’s goodness is not theoretical. It is meant to be experienced, enjoyed, and lived.
This touches the heart of biblical health. What we consume physically, mentally, and spiritually shapes our well-being. Just as real, God-created food strengthens the body, God’s presence strengthens the whole person. The call to “taste and see” is a call to take in what nourishes rather than what drains. It pushes us to consider what we are feeding our hearts and minds each day.
Many people today are consuming spiritual junk food without realizing it: constant negativity, fear-filled messages, unhealthy entertainment, and voices that pull them away from God’s truth. Just like ultra-processed foods harm the body, these inputs harm the soul. They create anxiety, confusion, and emotional heaviness. David’s invitation challenges us to turn away from what weakens us and to consume what brings life.
To taste the goodness of the Lord is to take refuge in Him. Refuge is a place of safety, calm, and restoration. When we intentionally turn to God’s presence, His Word, and His wisdom, we find peace that steadies the heart and clarity that strengthens the mind. This has very real effects on the body as well. Stress decreases. Breathing settles. Sleep improves. Biblical health grows wherever God’s goodness is welcomed in.
The call to taste also applies to our physical choices. God created real foods that nourish the body. Fruits, grains, vegetables, clean proteins, and whole ingredients carry His goodness within them. When we taste what He created, our bodies respond with strength. When we fill ourselves with artificial, processed substitutes, our health suffers. David’s invitation reminds us that God’s way is always the way of life, whether in our spiritual walk or our physical habits.
Taste and see. Slow down enough to notice God’s kindness. Take in His Word as nourishment. Feed your mind with truth. Nourish your body with what He designed. And let His goodness strengthen you from the inside out.
Prayer: Father, teach me to taste and see Your goodness each day. Help me turn from what drains my strength and to receive what truly nourishes my body, mind, and spirit. Let my refuge be in You, and let Your goodness shape my choices and my health. Amen.
