One of my favorite Bible verses about money is, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

What is your treasure? What do you find value in? The Bible has a lot to say about money. Jesus speaks a lot about money. It is such an important topic in the Bible that it is the main subject of nearly half of the parables Jesus told.

What the Bible Says about Money

When you examine the many Bible verses about money you’ll see that Jesus taught us deep financial lessons to keep this important aspect in perspective. Money could be a means but it definitely is not the end. Money can’t and will not solve our biggest problems in life.

Jesus does not condemn possessions and having nice things, but He warns against putting faith in money to secure the future. There is nothing wrong with wanting to save and invest. In fact, there are many bible verses about money and using it wisely that teach us having money is a good tool. But it is wrong to accumulate to impress and boast about.

When you give, give in secret. Do not tell others that you have done a charitable thing for reward, or honor. Jesus wants to know what your true motives are. It is said the heart of the matter is a matter of the heart. Jesus comes back to motive, and He speaks about it over and over when He talks of giving.

Know that God will provide when our motive is righteous and good. We are admonished in these bible verses about money over and over again to share our wealth (blessings). We never need to worry about our future because He will always supply and meet our need. God will allocate what we need when we need it, and even bless us beyond measure when He sees our intentions.

May these Bible verses about money give you insight on how to manage what God bestows upon you – giving to others in need, tithing your part to the church, and not being a slave to the lender. May God bless you abundantly.

You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small. You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small. ~ Deuteronomy 25:13-15

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

New Testament Verses

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

~ Matthew 13:44-46

No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.

~ Luke 14:13-14

Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, “This man began to build and was not able to finish.”

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
