One of my favorite Bible verses about sex is “And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:25) Being with your spouse and not ashamed is God’s design. God created sex to be a holy union, a coming together between a husband and wife, to enjoy the pleasure that two bodies were created to experience.

He created them man and woman and said it was “very good.” He designed sex to bring joy and happiness to one another in the bond of marriage. When God created Adam and Eve, He said the two will “become one flesh.” These Bible verses about sex may help you reset the damaging cultural views so prevalent in the world around us.

The Passion & Purity of Holy Love

Sex. A word that carries many different connotations in our culture today. You could easily point to the 1960’s counter-culture and “sexual revolution” as a starting point for America’s sexual journey of the past 50 years. The sexual revolution has been ever-expanding its influence and changing terms and definitions ever since. But did sex need a “revolution”?

What does the Bible say about sex? Let’s look at some Bible verses about sex.

Our culture has run contrary to God’s design for sex. The pornographic industry is one of the largest entertainment industries out there. Mainstream movies and tv shows constantly feature risqué material in a way that desensitizes all of us to biblical norms. Virtually every entertainment and health magazine on the newsstand displays a half-naked woman or man selling, market, and promoting promiscuity and sexuality. The purity, beauty, and intimacy of what sex should be, has been vastly degraded. Now sex has turned into a dirty image. It has become a topic that is no longer discussed with taste and reservation but with lust and profanity. Bible verses about sex have much to say about this topic.

Sex doesn’t have to be a topic that is unbearable to discuss openly with your spouse or even age-appropriate children. Make it a topic to draw you closer and experience one of the many pleasures God created for good. You shouldn’t feel ashamed to experience the depths of intimacy you were blessed to share with one another. The confines of marriage are safe places to be open and free with your body. Let yourself feel beautiful, and enjoy the exciting sex can bring to your emotional and physical health as well.

May these Bible verses about sex open your eyes to not being ashamed of the word but becoming empowered in yourself to love and be loved in such a special way with your spouse. May God bless you Abundantly.

Old Testament Bible Verses About Sex

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

~  Genesis 2:24

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

~ Proverbs 3:27

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

~ Genesis 1:28

And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine;

~ Song of Solomon 1:2

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.

~ Proverbs 5:18-19

Drink water from your own well – share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers.

~ Proverbs 5:15-17

Bible Verses About Sex

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

~ Leviticus 18:22

You shall not commit adultery.

~ Exodus 20:14

How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice!

~ Song of Solomon 4:10

How beautiful and pleasant you are, O loved one, with all your delights! Your stature is like a palm tree, and your breasts are like its clusters. I say I will climb the palm tree and lay hold of its fruit. Oh may your breasts be like clusters of the vine, and the scent of your breath like apples, and your mouth like the best wine. It goes down smoothly for my beloved, gliding over lips and teeth. I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me.

~ Song of Solomon 7:6-12

Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.

~ Ecclesiastes 9:9

New Testament Bible Verses About Sex

But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

~ 1 Corinthians 7:2

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

~ Hebrews 13:4

Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality…

~ Acts 15:19-20

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife.

~ 1 Corinthians 5:1

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

~ Ephesians 5:3

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

~ Galatians 5:19-20

(See more Scriptures about jealousy here.)

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God…

~ 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

~ 1 Corinthians 7:8-9

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

~ 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs.

~ 1 Corinthians 7:3

Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

~ 1 Corinthians 7:5

I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged.

~ 2 Corinthians 12:21

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

~ Ephesians 5:33

But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

~ Matthew 5:28

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

~ Galatians 5:16

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

~ Matthew 19:5

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

~ Romans 1:26-27
