One of my favorite Bible verses about aging gracefully is “Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.” (Psalm 92:14)

God will carry us through, even into our advanced years. Our Creator has had a plan for us since before we were born. He had our days numbered since the beginning of time and it is up to us to make wise decisions to help our bodies live a more vibrant and full life and to impart our wisdom to those placed in our lives.

What God Says About Aging Gracefully

Ahhh… the “Golden Years”!

Merriam-Webster.com defines the Golden Years as “the advanced years in a lifetime; active well into their golden years“. But what is so golden about growing feeble, teeth decaying, not being able to drive, or even bladder control issues. Those currently experiencing the “Golden Years” may tell you there is nothing golden about them. These bible verses about aging beg to differ!

“Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future…” as the old song goes. As the years begin to go by, our youthful bodies begin to feel the wear and tear from years of use they endured. The eyes begin to grow blurry, the hearing lessens as the days go by, and the loss of mobility becomes a reality.

You soon realize that the once vibrant young body has now become frail and no longer has that bounce-back that it used to have. Even still, you don’t have to just waste away; God has provided us with resources to get up and get active, to make more health conscious choices to help extend the years we may have.

No, we can not turn back the hands of time, but we can live a more abundant and healthy life right now regardless of how much time has passed or how much we may still have before us.

Aging is a beautiful gift from God. For those already in their Golden years, God has given you an opportunity to share what you have learned from your many days on this earth, to help others still growing and learning the ways of this world. The knowledge and wisdom you have gained over the years is like a secret treasure to those needing a little sage advice. You have been allowed to share your experiences as teachable moments for the generations to come. Each of these privileges are a blessing in and of itself!

To those of us still growing and learning as we move out of our parent’s house to get that dream job, get married, find the perfect house, have children, and eventually live the dream; we must seek the advice and council from those that have already gone those ways before us to learn from their successes and failures, to help us mature and become better for it.

The elders in our lives – our parents, grandparents, or leaders in the church – are here to help us to the glory of Messiah to become godly human beings of worship and praise to our Creator. Heeding their council is crucial to our relationship with God as we begin to find our own way on this earth.

May these Bible verses about aging gracefully help those in their Golden years find joy where God has allowed them to be, and for those of us still learning, find our aged, wise ones from whom to seek wisdom. May God bless you abundantly!
